E Even though we are talking about a short film, the epic and emotional dimension of the script underlying this project is extremely complex. Thus, the technical, visual and, to a great extent, literary intuition of writer director Nora Jaenicke manages to create through this project an intense and complex cinematic exercise that oscillates between drama and mystery, adopting an equidistant perspective on characters.

This impartial attitude that objectively explores the trauma of a family who prefers to hide a tragic event instead of endangering its social status is extremely effective, all the more so as the general tendency of filmmakers who could adopt such a screenplay is to moralise and condemn a monstrous behaviour which, unfortunately, is a real problem of the modern world.

Whales is an implosive, touching and dramatic short film that impresses with a very good visual grammar, but also with the psychological premises of relatively unpredictable and extremely authentic characters.
